2. Evidence intake
Collect contracts, architecture, repositories, credentials/access, configuration, runbooks, licences, supplier contacts, data flows and open issues.
3. Validate
Test what documentation claims against the operating system; identify gaps, unsupported dependencies, security concerns and key-person risk.
4. Protect access
Transfer or rotate credentials safely, remove obsolete access and preserve auditability/rollback where appropriate.
5. Prioritise
Separate urgent remediation from desirable improvement so transition does not become an uncontrolled rewrite.
6. Handover
Establish new ownership, decision records, documentation, service commitments and a measurable improvement roadmap.
